Reviews and Stories of Southend Music Venues

Here is a picture taken by our singer with my camera when I was with Alberta Country Band at the Cliffs Pavilion Maritime Rooms in October 1987. It was the night of the hurricane, we just managed to get off the grass bank at the back of cliffs, where we used to park, before the wind became strong enough to blow us off. JoJo
The Jam at the Cliffs Pavilion, Southend. I was fifteen when I attended that concert, my mate & I were let in to the sound check too - it was the best night of my life. The Jam were at no.2 in the charts with the bitterest pill & didn't even do it - what class! Richard
Wilko Johnson appeared to an enthusiastic and maximum capacity audience and gave it his best. He darted about the stage and "machine gunned" the audience in his own inimitable way. Backed by Norman (Blockheads) on bass and Monty on drums they played two encoures. The "Nightflies" supported and with superb own material won over the audience with their excellent playing. Mark Sibley lead vocals harmonica has a belting voice backed by Kevin Webb ( guitar/vocals ), T.C. ( Bass ) and ex Roosters drummer, Wayne Bronze. Very entertaining! JoJo
