Mark Radcliffe The Feelgood Factor 2007

Broadcast on Radio 2 on the BBC Saturday 13 January 2006 Mark Radcliffe and his buddy Phil Walmsley, set off on a radio road trip in search of the band behind the record that changed their lives 30 years ago: the classic Dr Feelgood album, Down By The Jetty. On the way they found about that the Feelgoods had influenced Sir Bob Geldof, Paul Weller and Blondie drummer Clem Burke among others.

They arrived on Canvey, where Wilko Johnson, bassist John B Sparks and drummer The Big Figure who has flown in specially from France were waiting at The Oysterfleet Hotel. The three reminisce about the making of Down By The Jetty and swap stories of Lee Brilleaux, who died from cancer in 1994 and is remembered with a band reunion in Canvey each year. As a final homage, they recreate the cover of Down By The Jetty in front of the island's oil terminals, with Mark standing in for Brilleaux.
